Overview of the Nuclear Information Services function

The authors have directed this paper to senior officers and managers of Nuclear generation facilities. It is encouraged that the concept of using the Nuclear Information Services function as an additional tool of management be reviewed in more depth by these leaders of their industry to determine the appropriateness of such an approach within their organizations. The results achieved at the Southern California Edison Company San Onofre Nuclear Generation Station have been highly beneficial in terms of productivity and increased assurances of compliance. In addition, there has been a positive contribution to the quality of work life of the professional nuclear power plant employee. The Nuclear Information Services function was implemented over a relatively short period of time. This included the successful implementation of a number of large host based Nuclear Information Systems. Several guidelines for the development and management of this function are suggested
