Fabrication of a 15 kA NbTi-cable for the 150 T/s high ramp rate POLO model coil

Description

A low loss cable for 15 kA current is under fabrication using Cu/CuNi/NbTi strands with outer CuNi shells. The conductor length will be 4 x 150 m. This conductor will be wound to a 3 m diameter POLO model coil. Coil and all components like conductor cconnections and cable terminations will be operated under high ramp rate pulses from 80 T/s (simulation of a plasma disruption in Tore Supra) up to 150 T/s in the TOSKA facility at KfK in 1989. The project aim is the development of conductors and components for the outer poloidal field coils for NET. As intermediate step, the operation of an 8 m diameter coil in Tore Supra is foreseen at 1991. The paper reports on the current fabrication experience. (author). 6 refs.; 9 figs.; 2 tabs
