Technical documentation of HGSYSTEM/UF6 model

Description

MMES has been directed to upgrade the safety analyses for the gaseous diffusion plants at Paducah KY and Piketon OH. These will require assessment of consequences of accidental releases of UF6 to the atmosphere at these plants. The HGSYSTEM model has been chosen as the basis for evaluating UF6 releases; it includes dispersion algorithms for dense gases and treats the chemistry and thermodynamics of HF, a major product of the reaction of UF6 with water vapor in air. Objective of this project was to incorporate additional capability into HGSYSTEM: UF6 chemistry and thermodynamics, plume lift-off algorithms, and wet and dry deposition. The HGSYSTEM modules are discussed. The hybrid HGSYSTEM/UF6 model has been evaluated in three ways
