Quasi-exclusive measurement of 12C(12C,3α)X at 2.1 GeV/nucleon
Description
The cross section, σ(12C + T → 3α + X) or σ(3α), and excitation energy spectrum, dσ(3α)/dE/sup */, for 12C have been measured for 2.1 GeV/nucleon 12C using a 0.9 (g/cm2) target of 12C. The dσ(3α)/dE/sup */ spectrum was found to include excitation energies in excess of 50 MeV. The dissociation of 12C into three (3) alpha particles at these excitation energies is evidence for clustering in the 12C nucleus
