Description

We have measured the positron lifetime parameters on a series of specimens of YBa2(Cu1-xMx)3O7-y (M:Fe,Ni,Zn) in the temperature range 20-300 K. In pure YBCO, the mean positron lifetime τmean showed a step-like increase in the temperature range 50-100 K and a decrease above 180 K. This variation of τmean can be explained in terms of thermally activated escapes of positrons from two kinds of trapping centers. The iron doping brought the shift of the transition region of τmean toward a higher temperature, while nickel and zinc did not much alter the behavior of τmean. These phenomena are ascribed to variations of the positron-defect binding energy with doping
