Decision finding concerning the rentability of salt domes for ultimate storage of radioactive waste

Description

There is general agreement among experts that there can be no generally valid, comprehensive, quantitative safety criteria for final storage mines. The required safety in a geological formation must therefore be proved by a safety analysis. The RSK has worked out criteria in this sense. Because of their fundamental importance, the protection targets, the multi-barrier concept and the requirement for safety analyses are briefly explained. (DG)

Abstract (German)

In der Fachwelt besteht Uebereinstimmung, dass es allgemeingueltige, umfassende, quantitative Sicherheitskriterien fuer Endlagerbergwerke nicht geben kann. Die erforderliche Sicherheit in einer geologischen Formation muss daher durch eine Sicherheitsanalyse nachgewiesen werden. Die RSK hat Kriterien in diesem Sinne erarbeitet. Wegen ihrer grundsaetzlichen Bedeutung werden die Schutzziele, das Mehrbarrierenkonzept und die Anforderung an Sicherheitsanalysen kurz erlaeutert. (DG)
