Site location of B dissolved in iron by ion channeling technique
- 1. Osaka Prefecture University, Graduate School of Engineering, Department of Materials Science, Sakai, Osaka (Japan)
Description
We are trying to determine the site occupation of boron atoms dissolved in α iron by ion-channeling with the nuclear reaction 11B (p, α) 8Be. As a preliminary experiment, we measured the yield of α particles by irradiating polycrystalline Fe-B alloy samples with a 700 keV proton beam using the 2.0-MV tandem accelerator. The results from alloys containing 0, 26, and 88 mol ppm B indicate that boron of such low concentrations can be quantitatively detected. (author)
