Description

The first layer of the forward muon detectors for ATLAS must be replaced during the 2018-2019 shutdown for the phase-1 Large Hadron Collider (LHC) upgrade. Improved timing and position resolution will be achieved with Small Thin Gap Chambers (STGCs). In order to determine the feasibility of these chambers in the high-luminosity LHC, the effects of ageing on a prototype STCG is studied. (author)
