A facility with high Reynolds number for calibration of a feedwater flowmeter

  • 1. National Inst. of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology, National Metrology Institute of Japan, Tsukuba, Ibaraki (Japan)

Description

A new test facility has been constructed at National Metrology Institute of Japan (NMIJ) for calibration of feed water flowmeters used at nuclear power stations at Reynolds numbers of up to 18 million. This very large Reynolds number is achieved at a flow rate of 3.33 m3/s (12,000 m3/h) and water temperature of 70degC in a 600 mm pipe. Then the pipe prover system for 750 m3/h is now being constructed to confirm of the temperature effect on the flowmeters. This paper describes the concept of the new facility, calibration method, the fundamental uncertainty estimation, and the example calibration result. (author)
