CP violation physics with LHC-B
Description
The origin of CP violation is still one of the unsolved mysteries of particle physics. To date, the effects of CP violation have only been observed in the neutral kaon system; and, although its description in the Standard Model is highly successful, it is most likely that a thorough explanation requires physics beyond the Standard Model. In order to progress towards a fuller understanding of CP violation, a new era of experiments dedicated to the study of CP violation in the B system will soon start. This review concentrates on the anticipated performance of the LHC-B experiment, which will measure CP violating observables with high precision at the LHC. These measurements will allow a thorough testing of the internal consistency of the Standard Model description of CP violation. (author)
