High frequency instability of the runaway electron distribution
Description
From the quasilinear analysis of the high frequency instability produced by the small perpendicular energy anisotropy of the runaway distribution a phenomenological description of pulsating instability with the associated production of high perpendicular energy electrons is presented. Macroscopic formulas for the period of pulsation and the mean electron energies are obtained. (author)
