Description

This paper presents the ARCHIMEDE code, developed by TRACTEBEL Belgium for on-line follow of PWR cores. This fast core simulator has been installed at Tihange-1 900 MW unit and was tested in other units. These experiments showed that an important gain of time could be obtained from core simulation during load-follow operation and incident conditions. The code uses the results of LWR-WIMS (transport code) and MERCATOR (2-D diffusion nodal code) to define a synthesis model with 1-D diffusion. A particular emphasize has been put on the consistency of the model with respect to TRACTEBEL's other design tools, especially for reactivity balance. ARCHIMEDE is used for on-line follow and predictive calculations as well as for design studies
