Nuclear power plants in the world as of December 31, 1982
Description
The Japan Atomic Industrial Forum, Inc., has performed the survey of the nuclear power plants in operation, under construction and in planning stage in the world twice a year, and published the reports summarizing the results. This time, the situation as of the end of 1982 was surveyed. The number of the nuclear power plants in operation was 281, and the total capacity was nearly 181 million kWe. That under construction was 229 with total capacity of nearly 220 million kWe. That the order of which was placed and in planning stage was 147. During 1982, 18 nuclear power plants with 15.4 million kW output started the operation, and the construction of 17 plants with 14.9 million kW output was begun. Among the 18 newly operated plants, 4 were in USA, 3 each in Canada and USSR, and 2 each in France, Belgium and Japan. 3 nuclear power plants ceased to operate and were closed. The number of the countries carrying out nuclear power generation was 23, same as before. 39 countries have been promoting the development of nuclear power generation. 22 nuclear power plants are expected to start operation during 1983. Brazil, Hungary and South Africa will join in the nuclear power generation countries. (Kako, I.)
