Description
A Si(Li)/CsI(T1) two-detector anticoincidence system, applied for background suppression in X-ray spectra, is described. Since the high energy background in PIXE spectra is produced mainly by Compton scattering of γ-rays in the Si(Li) detector, the anticoincidence spectrometer can be used to improve the sensitivity of PIXE analysis for trace elements of higher atomic number (Mo, Cd, I). Details of the system and the performance of the spectrometer are presented. (orig.)
