Tribochemical and thermal formation of a rutile mixed phase in the system TiO2-Nb2O5
Description
By grinding TiNb2O7 is separated into 2 phases. a) TT-Nb2O5, stabilized by dissolved TiO2 and b) a metastable solid solution of the rutile type with approximately 30 mol-% NbOsub(2.5) are being formed. The observed limit of composition probably agrees with the solubility of Nb2O5 in TiO2 at high pressure. By grinding under reducing conditions the known region of the solid solution TiO2-NbO2 is reached. Starting in the system TiO2-Nb2O5 a solid solution of the rutile type with maximal 10 at% Nb is formed by heating in air (1400 0C). This formation is connected with a minor loss of oxygen. (author)
