  • 1. Chubu Electric Power Co. Inc., Nagoya (Japan)

Description

In Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station, Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc., No.1 plant of 540 MW started the operation in March, 1976, and No.2 plant of 840 MW started the operation in November, 1978. Now, No.3 plant is constructed on the east side adjacent to the existing two plants. As for the No.3 plant, the design of the improved standardized plant was adopted, and various measures to raise the reliability, to reduce radiation exposure and to improve the rate of operation have been taken. Besides, in order to cope with the factors extending the construction period due to the large increase of the quantity of structures accompanying the increase of power output, effort has been exerted to adopt the new construction method and to improve the conventional method. The total layout of the Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station, and the specifications of the No.3 plant are shown. The No.3 plant is of BWR type with 1,100 MWe capacity. The features are the improved Mark 1 type containment vessel, new 8 x 8 type fuel, rapid scram control rod driving mechanism and the control rods with followers, the countermeasures to salt water damage, the measures to reduce radiation exposure, the design improvement in the waste treatment system, the new central control board and so on. The reduction of field works, the labor saving and rationalization of field works and the expansion of the parallel execution of works are promoted. (Kako, I.)
