Identification of reactive elements in MA 6000 super alloys due to oxidation at high temperature
Description
Identification of reactive elements in MA 6000 super alloys due to oxidation at temperature of 1100 °C for 72 hours has been observed using a Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) and Energy Dispersive X-ray. The goal of the research is to determine of the effects of reactive elements on oxide layers formed on MA 6000 super alloys. The result shows that the columnar shape of aluminum oxide was formed on the oxide layer. It was also observed that the oxide layer contained precipitates rich in reactive elements yttrium (Y) and titanium (Ti), and some minor elements chromium (Cr), nickel (Ni) and iron (Fe) as oxide residual elements. Heat treatment at high temperature for long period did not show any spallation of the oxide layer. The aluminum oxide layer was an α-phase with a face-centered cubic (fcc) crystal structure. (author)
