Early postirradiation response in lower lip carcinoma as a function of treatment parameters in iridium-192 interstitial therapy

  • 1. Instytut Onkologii, Warsaw (Poland)

Description

The material included 109 patients with lower lip carcinoma treated by Ir192 implantation. It was observed that the size of the malignant infiltration has a significant effect on the course of postirradiation response. The total dose applied, the dose rate and the difference between T. max and T. min had no significance. A difference was seen in the intensity of the postirradiation reaction in the two groups of patients where the time of treatment was shorter and longer than 120 hours. The activity of sources in the limits 1-2 mCi/cm had no greater effect on the intensity of postirradiation reaction. These facts should be considered in treatment planning in order to satisfy economical and radiation protection requirements. (author)
