Description

Excitation functions at thetasub(lab)=127.50 have been measured for inelastic scattering of 14-24 MeV α-particles from 194196198Pt. Data have been obtained for 0+, 2+, and 4+ states in all three targets and also for the 2+' state in 194Pt. Charge and mass β2 and β4 deformations were deduced from coupled-channels analyses of these data. All three targets were found to have moderately large, negative hexadecapole moments. The 2+' data for 194Pt imply that the interference term is positive, an unexpected result. (Auth.)
