The paper and presentation Decommissioning and Dismantlement of Surface Vessels with Nuclear Power Installations and Nuclear Service Ships: Main tasks and problems by Vladimir Shishkin from Rosatom, Russia. The paper described the status of two decommissioned nuclear-powered ships that were to be dismantled. It explained the specific and significant challenges of their defueling and dismantlement as compared to projects related to nuclear submarines. These projects were at the initial stage – the technical and economic substantiation of projects. The paper also describes the problems of decommissioned nuclear service ships and the capabilities of shipyards for their dismantlement.
