'Kondo-like' anomaly in γ-Ce

Description
Resistivity behaviour in the FCC phase of cerium (γ-Ce) when compared with that in FCC lanthanum reveals a 'Kondo-like' anomaly in the high-temperature region. High-pressure studies up to 7 Kbar pressure show a large enhancement of this Kondo-like behaviour due to the resonant increase in the antiferromagnetic exchange integral with pressure. These studies give further evidence in support of the model for γ-Ce in which a 4f virtual bound state lies in close proximity to the Fermi level. (author)
