Anomalous electron emission from simple binary ion-atom collisions
Description
Two prominent structures are observed in measured spectra of electrons emitted in ion-atom collisions: the Electron Transfer to Continuum Peak (ETC), and the Binary Encounter (BE) Peak. The authors have measured BE electrons in collisions of protons (0.5 to 5.0 MeV) on He and Ar targets in a wide range of emission angles. They observed a strong shift in the energy maximum of the BE peak, which is in first order expected to be Ee,max=4Ep(me/mp)cos2Θ, where Ep is the projectile energy, me and mp are the electron and projectile masses, respectively, and Θ is the electron emission angle
