Mass distribution in 12C induced fission of 232Th
- 1. Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Bombay (India). Radiochemistry Div.
Description
In this paper we report on mass distribution in 79 MeV 12C induced fission of 232Th. The experiments were carried out at the pelletron accelerator, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Bombay. The cross sections for 25 fission products were determined using recoil catcher technique followed by direct gamma ray spectrometry. They were used to derive the charge distribution parameters assuming unchanged charge distribution. The mass yield curve is a broad, symmetric, Gaussian with most probable mass at 119.0 ± 0.7 and FWHM equal to 44.6 ± 0.5 masses units. A fair estimate of the total number of neutrons emitted is also obtained. (author). 6 refs. 1 fig
