A possible central extension of the U(1) WZW model
Description
A possible central extension of the U (1) WZW model is studied. Its degenerate representations are found to be those of the Feigin-Fuchs systems. Supersymmetric version of this analysis is also performed. Although further extensions of our idea are possible, a naive central extension does not exist in the case of the non-abelian WZW model. Implications of this fact are briefly discussed. (author)
