Observations of a driven pendulum at low amplitudes

Description

A driven pendulum has been widely studied in the large amplitude, chaotic regime. In the present paper, observations are reported on a driven pendulum at frequencies near the resonance frequency, for relatively small drive amplitudes. Strong beating is observed between the transient and steady state response. Even at low drive amplitudes, the resonance is affected by the decrease in oscillation frequency with increasing oscillation amplitude. (paper)
