Suggestions for updating general master plan of water supplies in Umbria (Italy)

  • 1. Regione Umbria (Italy). Assessorato Ambiente e Infrastrutture

Description

Because of recent droughts, the need for increasing and improving the drinking water supply has become urgent in Italy. The Umbria Regional Authority undertook long ago the issue of an optimal water resources plan for which, in 1988 a first operative draft was laid. It concerned: the evaluation of water resources of calcareous formations; civil employment feasibility studies, with suggestions for updating the general plan for water supplies; and the realization of an irrigous development plan. The civil uses studies, which involved a census of the drinking water supply situations in 92 municipalities in order to update the water supplies plan, took into consideration the results of the study on the water resources of the calcareous formations, as well as, the results obtained by previous studies on water resources of floodplain formations and free surface resources
