Turbulent noise of current-carrying plasma in stellarator

Description

Experiments were made on the Sirius stellarator to measure the intensity of the microfields in the plasma and to determine the level of the turbulent noise in order to evaluate the ratio of the energy of the microfields to the thermal energy of the plasma. Radiation was observed in the region of the forbidden He I line at 4920.35 A. The size of the microfield intensity in the plasma was in the limits 0.9 kV/cm less than or equal to tilde E less than or equal to 2.5 kV/cm. The level of the turbulent noise varied within the limits 3 x 10-4 less than or equal to W/πT less than or equal to 2.5 x 10-3. The effective collision frequency was ν/sub eff/ approximately ω/sub pe/(W/πT) x (ω/ sub pe//ω/sub Hc/)
