Description
Self-consistent random-phase approximation calculations with SIII, SkM*, and Sks forces are performed in 40Ca, 90Zr, and 208Pb. Collective compression modes with lambda/sup π/ = 1- and 2+ are identified in the response function. Their energies are studied in connection with the compressibility properties of the effective interactions. The selectivity of various probes in exciting compression modes is discussed, as well as the sum rules associated with these probes
