Hyperfine interaction in ∼-UF5
Description
A 19F NMR study has been made on polycrystalline ∼-UF5 over the range 80-300 K. The anisotropic and isotropic hyperfine interactions have been determined for the terminal and bridge fluorine atoms. The spin densities on the bridge fluorine atoms have been calculated (0.6%), which indicates that the bridge U-F-U bond contains a small proportion of covalent component, which is related to partial population of the excited 3s orbitals in the fluorine
