Non destructive dosage of Americiums 241-243 by gamma spectrometry
Description
This thesis for engineering graduation in nuclear physics reports the exploration of opportunities provided by γ spectroscopy within the frame of a non destructive dosing of americium isotopes (241 and 243) in plutonium-based and uranium-based samples. After some theoretical recalls on the spectrometric technique, the author reports the development of two analysis methods aimed at performing direct controls. According to the first one, imposed geometry analysis, the americium content is calculated from the counting rate of the most intense γ line and a previously established standard calibration line. As far as the second method is concerned (non imposed geometry analysis), the principle relies on the analysis of the γ spectrum (60-750 keV) emitted by the sample. After measurement of americium γ line intensity, the author determines the content of these lines by using a yield curve. This method does not require the use of a standard set, and allows the control of americiums through the container located outside the glove box

Notre travail a consiste a faire une exploration des possibilites qu'offre la spectrometrie γ dans le cadre de dosage non-destructif des isotopes de l'americium (241 et 243) dans des echantillons a base de Pu ou d'U. Apres quelques rappels theoriques sur la technique spectrometrique nous avons developpe deux methodes d'analyses dans le but d'effectuer des controles directs. La premiere partie du travail a ete d'etudier l'analyse en geometrie imposee. La teneur en americium est calculee a partir du taux de comptage de la raie gamma la plus intense et d'une droite d'etalonnage standard etablie au prealable. Notre objectif etait d'atteindre, pour un domaine de confiance de 95 pc, une precision de 5pc sur les resultats obtenus. La deuxieme partie a porte sur l'analyse en geometrie non-imposee. Le principe repose sur l'analyse du spectre gamma (60 - 750 keV) emis par l'echantillon. Il a ete etudie une demi-douzaine de pics d'absorptions totales, pour chaque isotope, susceptible de donner de bons resultats. Apres mesure de l'intensite des raies γ des americium, on determine leur teneur a partir d'une courbe de rendement. C'est une methode qui ne contraint pas a l'utilisation d'une gamme d'etalon et permet le controle des Am a travers le container place hors boite a gants. (auteur)Files
