Tritium recovery experiments in JRR-2/VOM

  • 1. Japan Atomic Energy Research Inst., Tokai, Ibaraki. Tokai Research Establishment

Description

The VOM experiments were conducted in the JRR-2 reactor in order to examine the tritium release behavior from Li2O, LiAlO2 and Li4SiO4. Various improvements in capsule design and the measurement apparatus were accomplished. The dominant chemical forms in a pure helium sweep gas was mainly HTO and T2O. Tritium release was enhanced in deutrium bearing sweep gases and the chemical form was changed to DT and T2. For the three breeding materials tested, the tritium release from Li2O was the fastest followed by that of Li4SiO4. (author)
