Description

A majority of the applications of radiation for Non-destructive Evaluation (NDE) in industry has been reported using x-radiography or gamma-radiography. A variety of the applications of radiations, particularly, making use of the intrinsic radiation from the material itself has been developed for material evaluation and characterisation. This is particularly suitable in the nuclear industry where one has to often deal with radioactive material. In this presentation, applications of radiation using modifications of conventional NDE techniques as well as some novel techniques evolved specially for the evaluation and characterisation of nuclear material have been dealt with. These have been selected from the work carried out in the Radiometallurgy Division of the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre during the past two decades. (author)
