A time-of-flight spectrometer for heavy ions

  • 1. Academia Sinica, Lanzhou, Gansu (China). Inst. of Modern Physics

Description

A heavy-ion time-of-flight spectrometer has been constructed and operated successfully in experiments. The trigger detector consists of a thin plastic scintillator foil located at the focus of a parabolic mirror which is coupled to a fast photomultiplier with high light collection efficiency. The time resolution obtained for the system is around 500 ps. The mass resolution for A = 12 elastically scattered 12C line is approx. 0.3. (Author)
