Method of treating radioactive waste

Description

Purpose: To decrease the temperature of powder produced from radioactive liquid waste and prevent reduction of the effects of a binder by evacuating a centrifugal thin film drying machine for powdering the liquid waste and employing silane coupling agent as a binder. Method: A centrifugal thin film drying machine is evacuated by a vacuum pump to a pressure less than approx. 0.14 ata. Thus, the powder is heated by the drying machine and concentracted by low temperature evaporation, and decreased at its temperature due to the revolution of the rotary blades. A silane coupling agent is mixed as a binder in the radioactive liquid waste, the binder is not fully pyrolytically decomposed to prevent the reduction of the effect of the binder, and a pellet having large coupling strength can be formed from the powder thus produced.
