Monte Carlo image simulation in support of improvements in mammography
Description
One in nine women in the United States is affected by breast cancer. Mammographic screenings currently miss ∼10% of palpable breast tumors in women over the age of 50; 25% are missed in younger women because of denser breast tissue. It is of vital interest to lower these percentages through contrast improvements in the images and to enable tumor detection at earlier stages, especially in younger women
