High-temperature and post-irradiation piezoelectric properties of strontium niobate
Description
Strontium niobate single crystals have been divided into slices along their natural cleavage planes to produce X plate thickness expander piezoelectric elements. The piezoelectric properties of the plates were measured at high temperature in vacuum and in air to assess chemical stability for comparison with LiNbO3. Measurements of the properties at room and elevated temperature after neutron irradiation in a materials test reactor (MTR) showed some effects of radiation damage and damage recovery commencing at about 400 deg C.
