Plinius puts severe accidents under the microscope at CEA Cadarache

Description

Plinius, on the CEA Cadarache site, is a unique experimental platform dedicated to studying the behavior of corium, the molten material that can form during a severe accident. Plinius creates and studies prototypical coria in different environments to better anticipate their behavior and management. The laboratory has five test facilities: Fujisan, Krotos, Merelava, Viti and Vulcano, and is one of the few facilities in the world to use prototypical corium, composed of depleted uranium dioxide representative of nuclear fuel
