A simplified model for the dynamics of multicomponent ion exchange system

  • 1. Korea Advanced Inst. of Science and Technology, Seoul (Republic of Korea)

Description

In nuclear power plants, from the safe and economic points of view, it is very important to predict the radioactive effluent concentration from demineralizer bed. But the performance of the bed has been practically judged by merely detecting the overall decontamination factors since the existing ion-exchange (IX) models could not describe the multicomponent IX dynamics well enough. The equilibrium theory is relatively simple, but does not give the exact shape of the concentration profile. On the other hand, the rate theory is very difficult to apply to the multicomponent IX system. Therefore it is essential to develop a simplified IX model applicable to multicomponent IX system. In this paper, a new simplified IX dynamic model based on the equilibrium theory with the rate concept is developed
