Description
The high-energy ball milling of YBa3Cu2O7-x superconductor was investigated to see the effect of the ball-milled powders on melt growth reaction. The powder of the YBa2Cu3O7-x and the mixtures of the Y2BaCuO5 + (BaCuO2 + CuO) were ball-milled using a vibratory mill. Amorphous and nanocrystalline powders were formed during the milling. The use of the highly ball-milled powder resulted in more homogeneous microstructure and more enhanced melt growth than unmilled one due to a complete peritectic reaction: solid (Y2BaCuO5) + liquid (3BaCuO2 + 2CuO) → Solid (2YBa2Cu3O7-x). A proper control of the high-energy ball milling can be an effective method for preparing well-textured YBa2Cu3O7-x superconductor. (orig.)
