Method for solidification of high level radioactive liquid wastes
Description
Purpose: To calcine high level radioactive liquid wastes without crystallizing it, and to subject nitric acid contained in the liquid wastes to thermal cracking and stabilize it, thereby improving so-called calcination efficiency and preventing corrosion of the canister due to nitric acid. Method: A predetermined quantity of a crude solution supplied from a storage tank to a feedwater control tank is introduced in an evaporation condenser thereby to evaporate the water content and volume reduce it. The water contents of the thus treated high level radioactive liquid wastes are further evaporated in a spray drying tower to be formed in powdery state. The powdery liquid wastes are supplied to a calcining melter, heated uniformly to decompose nitrate, and glassified. (Aizawa, K.)
