Dual diodes end-pumped Q-switch operation of a c-cut 2044-nm Tm,Ho:YAlO3 laser

Description

A high efficient, Q-switch, cryogenic operation of c-cut Tm (5 at.%),Ho(0.3 at.%):YAlO3 (YAP) laser was reported in this paper. In the temperature of 77 K, the Tm,Ho:YAP crystal was double end-pumped by dual 7.25-W fiber-coupled laser diodes (LDs) at the center wavelength of 793.3 nm. A 2.17-W Q-switch output power was acquired at pulse repetition frequency (PRF) of 10 kHz, corresponding to an optical-optical conversion efficiency of 15.0% and a slope efficiency of 19.4%. The energy per pulse of 1.71 mJ in 71 ns was achieved at 1.25 kHz with the peak power of 24.1 kW
