Description

This book offers an up-to-date introduction to the physical, biological and legal principles of radiation physics and radiation protection. In the 6th edition the chapters on the Radiation Protection Act and Radiation Protection Ordinance as well as on practical radiation protection have been revised and updated according to the new Radiation Protection Act, which became operative in the beginning of 2019. In addition, the changes of the new SI system were incorporated. The book starts with the basics of radiation physics: radiation types and radiation fields, atomic structure, radioactivity and interactions of radiation with matter. It is followed by the basics of radiation biology, radiation effects and risks. The book concludes with chapters on radiation protection and exposure in medicine. After each chapter, the reader finds the most important statements summarized in a structured way. Detailed tables, examples and exercises help the reader to grasp, understand and apply the substance.
