Irradiation experiments of uranium carbide, carbonitride, and nitride fuels in JAERI

Description
In JAERI, the irradiation test and analysis have been made to provide information on in-pile behavior of uranium carbide, carbonitride and nitride fuels as a preceeding stage examination for the mixed uranium-plutonium fuels. Five capsules containing UC, UC/sub x/N/sub 1-x/(x = 0.75, 0.5 and 0.25) and UN fuel pins were irradiated in JMTR (Japan Material Testing Reactor) to investigate their dimensional changes and swelling rates, and to examine the compatibility of the fuel pellets with the cladding materials under sodium or helium environment
