Spent nuclear fuel. Dry or in-pool warehousing: two screened options
Description
This article comments the content of a report published by a parliamentary inquiry commission on the safety and security of nuclear installations which performed hearings of various experts about the choice between two options for spent fuel warehousing: dry or in pool. It notably focuses on the issues of sheath strength, of a better fuel cooling, and of the taking of floods and earthquakes into account. It also indicates that the warehousing process depends on the fuel type. The case of Belgium (which uses dry warehousing) is briefly evoked
