Ultrasonic wave propagation in concrete

  • 1. Agricultural Univ. of Malaysia, Serdang, Selangor (Malaysia)

Description

A study of the ultrasonic wave propagation in concrete has been carried out using the Through Transmission Method. Several samples of concrete have been prepared by mixing cement, sand, aggregate and water in different proportions. It is observed that the velocity of ultrasonic wave in concrete increases linearly with the percentage of cement used (within the range of 10 to 50% of cement content). An increase in the aggregate content also causes the ultrasonic wave velocity to increase though not linearly. However, an increase in the water to cement ratio results in a decrease in the wave velocity
