The composition of the surface of boron nitride

Using the method of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy the chemical composition and state of atoms in thin surface layers α- and β-BN are studied. For the first time for β-BN X-ray photoelectron spectra of valency and basic electrons have obtaied. The composition of thin surface layers of α- and β-BN and heat treatment effect on it are determined. The presence in surface layers of β-BN of Bsub(x)ONsub(y) type compounds is established and it is shown, that thin surface layers α- and β-BN are enriched by nitrogen
