Description

REB pulse propagation in a waveguide filled with a plasma with ohmic conductivity is investigated numerically within the frames of the Maxwell-Vlasov equations for the case of azimuthal symmetry as applied to the prlblem of collective ion acceleration over the REB front the position of which is determinecd by an external gas ionizer. The rate of beam front travel is restricted by a certain limit depending on the REB optimum conductivity of plasmag generated by the ionizer. If the rate of ionization travel exceeds the mentioned limit, a break between the ionization zone and REB front takes place; further acceleration of ions captured by the REB field at its front will cease. The calculation results are compared with the assessments. An optimum regime of ion acceleration at the REB front up to relativistic energies is suggested
