Description
The gamma-rays accompanied the beta and electron capture decay of 124 I-124 Te have been studied in the present work using single and (Gamma-Gamma) detection systems. The measured energies and intensities of the different transitions involved in this decay together with the coincidence result have been used to construct the decay scheme of 124 I. Five new gamma ray transitions were reported at energies 459.288,619.432, 887.125, 1612.053 and 2323.083 keV. A new level at energy 2214.12 KeV was introduced for the first time. The comparative half life for β+ and electron capture decay to levels in 124 Te were calculated and spin-parity assignments for these levels were also estimated. No evidence was shown for the population of O+ states reported before at energies (1156 KeV and 2020 KeV) which were considered as a member of two phonon and three phonon states in 124 Te. 3 figs., 2 tabs
