The Wendelstein VII-AS experiment

  • 1. Max-Planck-Institut fur Plasmaphysik, Euratom Association, D-8046 Garching

Description

The aims of the Advanced Stellarator WENDELSTEIN VII-AS are: the investigation of plasma behavior in an optimized Stellarator configuration; the investigation of a plasma without ohmic heating currents. W VII-AS is an upgraded and improved version of W VII-A using the frame structure and the technical infrastructure of the earlier device. Two technically outstanding components have been in the center of activity: firstly, the nonplanar coils and, secondly, the vacuum vessel. The paper gives a survey of the technical development results and a timetable for the completion of the machine is presented
