Measurement of free thyroxine - a comparison of four techniques

Four different techniques for measurement of free thyroxine (fT4) were investigated. In 40 sera of patients being evaluated clinically and by biochemical parameters (20 euthyroid, 10 hypothyroid, 10 hyperthyroid) fT4 was measured and the results were related to the respective normal ranges. Intraassay variation coefficients were calculated for the clinically relevant ranges. The influence of serum dilution on the results was investigated. (orig.)

Abstract (German)

Vier Methoden zur Bestimmung des freien Thyroxins wurden ueberprueft. Bei 40 Seren von Patienten, die klinisch und laborchemisch definiert waren (20 euthyreote, 10 hypothyreote und 10 hyperthyreote) wurde fT4 bestimmt und die Ergebnisse mit den jeweiligen Normalbereichen in bezug gesetzt. Die Intraassayvariationskoeffizienten wurden in klinisch wichtigen Bereichen ermittelt. Der Einfluss von Serumverduennungen auf die Methoden wurde untersucht. (orig.)
